It might be that things have been going bad for a while and there's a lot of things going on in the building world at the moment, both externally and internally with costs and so forth.
So the numbers are that nearly 3,600 construction companies entered external administration nationally last financial year.
Now that's up 20% on the year before last.
And construction has been the biggest sector that has had company failure in the country for about four years running.
That's a lot of builders going
into receivership.
That is.
So that's nearly 44% of the national total, which is just horrific.
You kind of expect it because there is a greater population in New South Wales and more houses being built, but that's still a lot of people
impacted.
That is.
And it's not just the fringe operators either.
You know, Porter Davis is well publicised.
That was one of Victoria's biggest volume builders.
They collapsed in 2023.
They left more than 1,700 homes unfinished then.
Yeah, that was pretty horrific.
And well regarded with good history.
Yeah.
And you would think that signing with them would be, you know, as least risk as you could possibly hope for.
Well, and that's it.
