Keith Elgin on the Spiritual impact of Journaling, Building a heart of worship through reflection, and the story behind The Worship Journal

And then, Earlier this year, I had this idea, and I had been journaling.

I mentioned I started journaling.

And also last year, I started journaling through songs.

And I don't think I have a copy of my original journal, but I was leading this song called No Name by Red Rocks Worship.

It was the first time we had done it at our church.

And so I just was like, hmm, I'm going to start journaling through this song.

And so the opening line is, all power, dominion, honor, and strength, all wisdom and glory, and whatever.

So I write this down, and I just start praying through it in my journal.

Wow.

and now i'm cross-referencing scripture

and

i'm spending time god what does it look like for you to have all authority all power all you know and so now i got three four pages of journaling just about verse one wow and so i'm journaling through this song and then i leave the song for the first time and i was like man that's like it's different than like i learned the chords and i learned the melody Right? Which is good if you want to do that.

But I got this, there was a depth to it.

And then so then the next week, I was leading Same God by Elevation Worship, right? I had done this song a million times.

And, you know, I like the song, whatever, probably worships to it.

But I started writing out, I started at verse one again, I'm calling on the God of Jacob.

And

I start studying Jacob.

And I start... reading exodus and genesis and sorry genesis and and then into exodus and and then i'm thinking about oh what what is what are the generations of of jacob look like and wow what do i want my generations now i'm praying through my through my kids and their their kids and their kids and what impact to the kingdom for the kingdom we want to have and man when i led that song again it's like I'm calling on the God of Jacob.

It's great.

But man, when I'm like, what does it look like to really call on the God of...

Who is the God of Jacob?

Wow.

Man, I had such a deeper understanding of God.

And so that was last year.
