Why can we know exactly what we need to do... and still not stick with it? In this episode, I'm unpacking why consistency isn't just a discipline problem — it's a wiring problem. Your brain and body…
So this past weekend, we went on a trip for a soccer tournament that my oldest daughter was playing in, and it was myself and my oldest two daughters.
And, you know, it started out great.
Everyone was excited.
My, my oldest daughter was having fun, and then out of nowhere she hit a wall.
[laughs] And I mean, like, a real wall, the kind where you can see a switch literally flip, and suddenly she's not the same kid who was laughing 20 minutes ago.
I mean, I could even see it, like, in the pupils of her eyes.
And [sighs] you know, I wanna be honest.
It, it wasn't just one thing.
Like, she was smack in the middle of her cycle, which meant her immunity was already low.
She was exhausted from the trip because it took us, like, five hours to get there.
And on top of all that, her anxiety just took the wheel, and it was a complete disaster for a few hours.
You know? She couldn't calm her body down.
She, she couldn't think clearly.
She couldn't hear any, any reason, and she was stuck.
You know, in that moment, I wasn't reaching for a lecture.
I just wasn't trying to talk to her about her feelings.
I went straight for the body because this, this definitely wasn't the first time that it's happened, and it won't be the last, but we're getting better with each, each time that this happens.
And so we did breathwork together.
I got out the essential oils, kept giving her, like, small, simple verbal cues like, "There is not a bear in the room.
You are safe right now.
Y- nothing is chasing you." Um, you know, and trying to get her to breathe with me over and over.
So, you know, just small, like, repeated truths paired with something physical for her body to actually do is what we have s- have started to utilize in these, in these situations.
Slowly, [laughs] she came back, and her shoulders dropped.
Her breathing evened out.
She could hear me again.
