Are you finding yourself carrying things that were never yours to carry...and it's draining you to the core? In this episode, I’m sharing the deeper story behind leaving my job after 7 years — and…
So I want to talk about something I think happens specifically to high performers and stick with me to the end because I have some homework I want you to walk away with today so you can start the conversation with God too.
But we, you know, we confuse our capacity to carry something with our responsibility to carry it because there's a difference between You know, when you care deeply about the success of something, you notice the gaps.
You notice what isn't getting done.
You notice the process that isn't working when someone isn't following through.
And because you care so much about the outcome, what do you do? You fill the gap and then you fill another one and another one.
until eventually you're not just responsible for your work anymore.
You're carrying the weight of whether the whole thing succeeds.
So let me ask you, where are you doing that right now? And no judgment, because again, I'm sharing part of my story today, but where have you decided maybe without even consciously deciding it, if I don't make this happen, it won't happen.
So as a wife, a mom, or as a hardworking career woman, this is the pattern I want you to notice.
When something isn't working, high performers tend to compensate because we're resourceful, we're problem solvers.
And frankly, being the person who figures it out has probably been rewarded our entire lives, either by recognition or self-fulfillment.
But that strength can become a liability when we're matched with people who don't have the same urgency, ownership, or motivation that we do.
And that's when we get stuck between process and completion.
You know, someone else can leave something unfinished, but you can't.
Someone else can say, we'll get to it, but you've already figured out how it's going to get done.
And you start carrying their portion too.
And because you're capable of doing it, sometimes nobody even realizes what it's costing you.
Are you exhausted because you have too much responsibility? Or are you exhausted because you've assumed responsibility for things that were never actually yours? I also want to talk about the days when everything feels heavy.
because I've had them.
Those days when suddenly you literally want to quit everything, the job, the project, the commitment, maybe even your entire carefully constructed life.
And for women, you know, I think we also need to become more aware of our bodies.
So TMI, don't get uncomfortable here, but there are points in our monthly cycle when our energy, our mood and tolerance for stress, it just it can change significantly.
And that doesn't mean that, you know, what we're feeling isn't real, but it can often be intensified.
So we have to really gut check and invite God in to ask, you know, is this something I need to act on today? Or is this something I just need to observe today? Sometimes I need rest, food, body movement, prayer, and maybe a good night's sleep, not the resignation letter.
