If you’ve stepped into this season with a fresh plan, a color-coded calendar and the best intentions…only to watch it all begin unraveling, you are so not alone. This fall, my home looks a little…
There is something about the beginning of a new season that can really activate the high achiever in me.
The new calendar comes out and my mom and I, because she's like my right hand squad girl when it comes to raising these four kids with all of the extracurriculars.
everything we start filling in all the dates and matching up our calendars and my husband and I are both self-employed so you know we're setting end-of-year goals and budgeting and I'm sure the same is true for you that you've got things you're constantly thinking about what needs to happen at work what our children need what are our families needing so we start building the plans and creating the systems, and trying to get ahead of everything.
And there's nothing wrong with planning, working hard, pursuing goals, or building something meaningful.
Those can all be important and good things.
But if we're not careful, all that planning and building can turn into striving, which basically is just saying, instead of letting God direct our priorities, we're We need to try to carry everything ourselves.
We move faster.
We add more and keep pushing because we believe that if we can just work hard enough, it's all going to work out and it's going to, everything's going to be held together.
But that is where things can start to unravel so quickly.
And I know really well what it feels like to live in that cycle of I have experienced seasons when I was trying to be productive and present and successful in every area at the same time, which is crazy.
And I wanted to do good work, be a good mom, grow in my faith, teach my kids about God, follow through on every commitment, many of which I had no business committing to.
And I had this idealistic thought of what my quiet time was supposed to look like.
And it needed to happen at a certain time, last a certain amount of time, and feel a certain way.
When I could follow that routine, I felt like I was doing great.
And when life interrupted, I just felt like I was failing.
And here is what I began to realize.
I had created a spiritual rhythm that depended on ideal conditions.
And when those conditions disappeared, the rhythm disappeared with them.
And what I needed wasn't, I don't need another complicated plan.
I needed a simple way to return to God, even when the day wasn't going according to plan.
And I've talked in previous episodes, like control is one of the things that I have always had an issue with of trying to control things in my life.
And that is where.
this two minute shift began for me.
And stick with me until the end because I'm gonna give you the exact two minute reset that you could put into practice today.
