There’s something slightly uncomfortable about saying, out loud, that you want more. More money. More success. More adventure. A bigger business. A bigger life. Because surely we should be grateful…

Carly Osman-HolmeHostI'd like to take two steps back and talk about how uncomfortable ambition is and how uncomfortable we all feel with wanting more.
So my question, my first question to you is like, why do you think ambition in women still carries so much emotional weight?

I think it's what, for me, how I see it is it's what that ambition might mean about you underneath it.

So, you know, what's it loaded with? What are people going to think? Are they going to think that you want too much? Are they going to...

I guess, think if she's really ambitious at work, does that mean she's not so bothered about her children? If you've got kids, you know, they're going to maybe make that mean something about that.

And I think a lot of it is just what we perceive other people are going to think about us and that ambition that we have.
And I look back at things that I've desperately, desperately wanted, but I haven't wanted to openly, one, openly admit to others, but also admit maybe to even to myself that I wanted it because I didn't want to feel ungrateful or greedy or be too big for my boots.
Like, why? And I really want to get into like, why? Where is this coming from?

Well, I think there's so many things here that I can answer this in so many ways according to how I see it.

But I think a lot of people can see it like you can't want more and be grateful for what you have.

I think wanting more, if it comes from gratitude, it comes from a total, it's like we're saying, I'm not unhappy with what I have and I'd like to expand that.

And when you really look at like, you know, I think it goes back to a little bit of like what we're doing here.

And are we here in this life to expand and be our fullest potential and the greatest version of who we can be? So actually, ambition is for me and growth is like breathing.
And is that, do you think we've been socialized that way or conditioned that way, do you think? Or is it, where is it coming from?
