The Jobs Market Isn't Dying, It's Being Reimagined with Janine Chamberlin

I remember when I was leaving university.

It was hard then.

What was it? 2010.

I had no idea what I wanted to do.

The generally accepted wisdom were that you had the key careers that you'd go in as a grad were in professional services, right? It was the consulting, it was the big four, banking, software engineer, data engineer, those sorts of things.

Prevailing wisdom for 10, 15 years feels like it's been undone very quickly over the last two years.

As you said, those are the industries that are suffering

And I think it's still being undone.

Should young people still go to university? Is it a good path for people? And I think what's happened is that almost over the last 20 years, it has become sort of glorified as the only path to go, the best path to go.

And I think that's what's being undone right now, because there are multiple paths.

There are apprenticeships.

There are other roads, starting your own business to starting your career.

And I believe that young people who are entering the workforce now, they're going to have completely different careers than you and me had or even the way that we were told that we were going to have a career right now we will see that people have to continue to kind of pivot and change learn new things learn new skills and even move into different functions to kind of build that career and young people are doing that If you look at Gen Z, they are creators, they are company founders, they're doing all these different projects.

They don't necessarily choose one path, one job, and that is the way to go.
