The sons of God gather before the Lord, and Satan strolls in among them—fresh from prowling the earth to steal, kill, and destroy. When God points to Job as blameless and upright, Satan sneers back: strip away the blessings and the hedge, and Job will curse God to His face. So God grants permission—Satan can touch everything Job owns, but not the man himself, proving the enemy attacks only on a leash God holds.
