Mar 25, 2026 · 29 min · 10 segments
This conversation unpacks the tension between confidence and performance in youth sports, highlighting how many athletes wait for success to feel confident, when in reality confidence must come first…
Well, the first thing I'd say is we went very, very short benched this weekend.
So we only had eight players.
So everyone was playing lots.
And we had of those eight, there's definitely a few girls that are less confident.
And I really feel like that held them back, not because I needed them to be better players than they are, but that their lack of confidence in being able to play how they can play helped.
affected them.
It always comes back to that, the confidence and the belief in yourself.
Yeah.
So it's, it was funny to see and to just be like, yeah, it's still the same issue.
Oh, and it's so funny, right? Because they're waiting for the confidence to come from the play.
Like when I do this, then I'll feel confident.
And I mean, if I've learned anything in life on kind of a personal journey, is like, if I'm waiting for my happiness until I have the million dollars, well, just keep waiting.
Because that and you talk to people who actually do achieve the million dollars, and they climb to the top of the ladder, and they look in the bag at the top of the ladder.
And resoundingly, the story is always the bag is very empty.
Because at the top of the ladder, you don't get the happiness from achieving it.
It's the person that you are.
And if you can find those feelings of happiness, go ahead and climb the ladder, get to the ladder and be like, woohoo, it's awesome up here.
Because man, traveling business class, definitely in one of my life goals, right? It's like, I'm going to regularly travel business class.
Yeah.
But The business class and the happiness and the satisfaction that I will get traveling business class doesn't come once I get there.
It is this thing that I am sourcing in myself right now of like, oh, I'm going to tackle this project because I'm the kind of person who travels business class.
So I'm going to put out a great product and I'm going to like find these ways of making that happen.
And the parallel to life and sport and these girls is like they are waiting for that confidence to come when they make the kill.
Or when they have the great passing.
And it's like, girl, you need the confidence to do the pass.
