In October 2009, 17-year-old Matt was deer hunting deep in New Jersey's Pine Barrens when he noticed a strange figure watching him from behind a tree. For five hours, he remained trapped in his tree…
So how has this affected your life since it happened?
I have not gone back.
Uh, the, the two deer stands that I had in the Pine Barrens, they are either gone, stolen, or I have no idea because I will not go into the Pine Barrens ever again most likely.
And it's a beautiful area.
There's, there's, uh, lakes, rivers, can- you can canoe, kayak, fish, and I, and I fish for a living and, and I'm not, I c- I just can't bring myself to go back into that million acre reserve.
Yeah.
But South Jersey, uh, woods, farmland, nice, quiet, really kind of like Alabama-esque small towns.
Farmers, you know? So there's a lot, a lot of places where a lot of different things can, can hide.
Yeah.
You know, it's funny that you mention having to see a therapist and just being, being worried about even sharing this information just because like with, with anything-
Yeah.
I, I went to a therapist twice
...
Yeah.
Wi- with anything like this, like people are obviously gonna think you're crazy.
But how many people have to come forward and, and share their stories that are very similar to this before they don't sound so crazy anymore? And maybe it's crazy not to believe that there's something out in those woods.
I, I firmly believe that it's crazy to think that there's nothing that we don't really know about out in those woods, you know? It, there's, legends came from somewhere.
Not everything was just, just drawn up.
You look across the world, ancient civilizations, you know, the Incas, Mayas, uh, people of Machu Picchu, all these things, Egyptians, they all have carvings.
They're the, you know.
If, so if they don't, if people don't think that there's, quote, kind of, you know, quote-unquote, supernatural things or paranormal things, you know, [laughs] go get tested because I used to be an engineer on a 186-foot offshore supply vessel.
