What does it take to perform at the highest level, handle the pressure of the big stage, and find your place in surf lifesaving beyond competition? This episode, we sit down with Jen Parry, one of…
Touching on IRB States recently, any key highlight moments for you? Ah.
And we always talk about at a surf carnival, you want to hang out with the winners.
And I was like, if I needed to get hyped up right now, I would go and sit under the Kira tent.
But what I really enjoyed about States this year was that there was a little bit more diversity in the winners.
So there was... put look out got some gold medals uh miami was in there broadie of course cara were doing really well but we're sad you know i think alex got a gold medal as well so just seeing different caps come through was quite exciting um and i would pick miami as the ones who are knocking on the door at the moment they didn't get it in terms of like gold medals or medal tally but they were just there in every single race like real quiet achievers so yeah For everyone who's heading to Aussies at two weeks.
What would be, I guess, from both a selector standpoint and a commentator standpoint, what are your predictions inside Scoop here? What are your predictions for Aussies coming, I suppose, when this episode will come out? It will either be...
around Aussie
time or just after so yeah what's your what are you hedging your bets on? I would say a lot of diversity in the winners I think there'll be a few surprises I don't think any one club will absolutely dominate conditions always play a part in IRBs but I think I've only done three seasons worth of IRB commentary and only at the state level but I really have to own that in my head because I didn't grow up in IRBs I was probably always like oh they're the cowboys like it's not as serious or I probably didn't appreciate how much training and how much skill went into it and after doing my first IRB states I just had to say I am so sorry I have misjudged this sport so severely I was blown away by the skill the strength the technique it was phenomenal to watch and it gets better year on year so I would be expecting big things, this Aussie IRB Championships.
And the fact that so many of them have social media accounts now as well, they give you this like inside baseball look of what training goes into that and what technique goes into it.
I would snap my ankle in a heartbeat when you watch them go from boat speed to running speed.
It scares me so much.
