What if the qualities that make great leaders aren't learned — they're remembered? In this episode of True North Alignment, Keith sits down with leadership and executive coach Elizabeth Rose to…
And that brings the question of what is balance? How does someone know if they're in balance or activation?
Once we, I think, become aware of what's going on in our emotional body, we're going to be able to start to become aware of when we're feeling in balance in our emotional body.
It's it's the we're looking at the emotional intelligence model, that first pillar of self-awareness.
It's really starting to practice what's going on with me in real time all the time.
Ideally with our children, when they're having a bad day, we use language like, wow, your body has a lot of energy in it right now.
What's going on with you? What do you need to do to make your body feel better rather than why are you in such a grumpy mood? So it's not hot, but it's that sense of self-awareness.
So because once we have it, we know when we're a little off and we know that it's not just that our thinking brain is saying I'm having a bad day.
What do I need? Do I need to sit and do deep breathing? Do I need to do jumping jacks? Right.
Sometimes we want to match what's off with like input, but it all comes down to self-awareness.
Yeah, so it's having the awareness of what it feels like when we're in balance and then developing that emotional intelligence to see that something is gone, something's activated.
And then it sounds like there's another layer to that in what you teach is that there's the ability to know what I need to bring me back to balance in this moment.
And sometimes it's not what we, we might have to try more than one thing, right? We might have some type of an activation going on that feels really deregulating and think, oh, I'll just sit quietly and take some breaths for a couple of minutes.
And I always use the example, you know, we did this with our kids, you know, when kids are little, when they're like two and three and it's bedtime and we want to give them a bath and put them to bed and they're like running around the room.
