[upbeat music] Hey, Squadies.
Travel Squad Podcast is back with Just the Tip, our Friday mini-episode series where we give you quick travel stories, hacks, and recommendations to set you off into the weekend right.
Today you have just me, Jamal, and Brittany as your hosts as we're sharing our review of our experience flying premium economy with Singapore Airlines.
We've previously done a review on Singapore Airlines business class, so be sure to check that one out, but here we are doing one on premium economy when we just flew this from Tokyo back to Los Angeles.
And this is a good episode to listen to in comparison to a previous episode that we released not too long ago doing our premium economy review of Cathay Pacific.
So we wanna give you two airlines for comparison here, compare the both, and share similarities and differences just as well.
This flight was about 10 hours, and we're gonna be talking about our booking experience, seat comfort, service, food, entertainment, and the overall experience that we had in this mini episode.
This was our last flight to get back home after our Asia adventures, going to Hong Kong, South Korea, and of course Japan, as we are leaving here from Tokyo.
This flight was scheduled to be 10 hours, and again, we did fly Cathay Pacific on our way to Asia.
And of course, we wanted to fly premium economy, 'cause earlier this year we did fly Singapore Airlines business class.
We got really spoiled with that.
You can't compare premium economy to business class, but we had some points that we were able to use to get these flights for free, so this is something that we redeemed and didn't pay for out of pocket.
But there was a little bit of a fee that we paid, right, Jamal? Didn't we pay f- to sit in the bulkhead seats?
Yes, you are correct.
So of course w- any booking with points, you are gonna pay your taxes and fees associated with that.
You can't utilize it with the points.
Some airlines do charge you to sit in certain seats regardless of if you're utilizing points, because they are considered to be better seats.
So Singapore Airlines is an airline that charges you to sit in the bulkhead, and again, if you don't know what that terminology is, the bulkhead is where it's the walled-off section on the plane, either separating where the big emergency exit door is, separating cabin classes, the galley.
So we had nobody sitting in front of us.
It was just the emergency exit and then the wall, so basically boatloads of foot space, and Singapore Airlines charges you a premium for this.
I think it was an additional $100 a person.
So yes, we did pay $200 collectively to have more space and no one sitting in front of us.
When you fly premium economy, you do get priority check-in at the airport counter, and during boarding you are able to board after first and business class, but before the economy class.
