How is AI changing trade finance education? Eleonore Treu of ICC Austria speaks with Alex Gray of LIBF and Geoff Wynne of Sullivan & Worcester UK LLP about the growing importance of human judgement…
I was pushed into Trade Finance Week, did not know what a letter of credit was.
So basically, um, I jumped, uh, into trade finance, and that brings me to very, my very first question.
And that would be, thank you, Alex, for providing some data from LIBF, um, on, uh, the background of the learner.
And without going into too much details, but I had a look and I found one thing very interesting, and that was age bracket.
And not only, um, have we of course a strong age bracket, uh, between 25 and 35.
So participants, uh, that take your courses and take your certificates are between 25 and 35.
But at the same time we also have a strong, very strong, equally strong, um, significant amount of people between 35 and 45.
And that brings me to the question, um, how is that? Is that because it takes so much time to acquire expertise in trade finance? Or is it something where you just, you know, discover trade finance and then you wanna take, um, some, um-
I, I haven't been able to prove it for a fact, but it does work with what I've done.
But then I only did the qualifications later in life to prove to people I had that knowledge.
People who are learning from scratch earlier in life, and then you have people later in life who have been already working there, and they think, "Well, wait a minute, I've been working for 15, 20 years, but how do I prove to somebody that I have this knowledge?" And they would take the qualifications.
So the people doing it later in life, they're not having to do, say, the 200 hours of work, but you have to look at the text and, you know, work it all out.
Well, there's one guy that I spoke to who was very nervous about doing CITF, a Certificate International Trade Finance, 'cause he got the job from India in the Middle East, and he- the boss had said, "If you don't pass CITF within six months, you'll lose your, your probation.
