Burst of Inspiration: Vayeira - Four Jobs, Three Angels, One Incredible Insight

The parasha begins with three malachim, three people appearing to Avram Avinu.

Rashi tells us they each have a job.

It says, Rashi, one is coming to tell the good news to Sarah that she's going to bear a child.

One is coming to tell the good news to Sarah that she's going to bear a child.

A second one is going to destroy Sodom.

The difficulty is that there's a fourth job.

The fourth job is to save light.

So why are only three malochim appearing? Surely four malochim should appear.

Rashi addresses it and says, That's Rashi's answer to essentially this question.

But the question is, why are there three malochim for four jobs? Let me share with you an amazing chidusha rim.

The Hadish HaRim says, the truth is, there were three malachim for three jobs.

The fourth job, l'chatzeles loit, was actually not on the table.

It wasn't planned, it wasn't necessary at the time when these three malachim appeared to Avraham Avinu.

Why? What happened? Something happened when the malachim came and were down in this world and the whole story at the beginning of the parasha happens that triggered a need to save loit.
