A faith that looks completely real on the surface, but has nothing underneath.
And so I just want to pose this question to you this morning.
Is there any chance, is there any chance that your faith is a deepfake? Now, I'm not asking this with a flashlight to like zoom in and find the fake.
This is something I want you to ask yourself.
I want you to focus on you and ask yourself this question.
Is there a possibility that some or all of my faith could be a deep fake? And so the way that Jesus helps us do this in his sermon on the mount is he kind of takes three ideas and looks at them from a little bit different perspective.
So he takes a tree and its fruit, He takes a heart and its treasure and a house and its foundation.
Three things, three movements that all say the same thing.
The thing that you can see on the surface is only as real as what's hidden underneath.
What you can see on the surface is only as real as what's hidden underneath.
So the fruit is only as good as the tree that produces it.
The words are only as good as the heart from which they come.
The house is only as good as the foundation.
So maybe you're thinking like, okay, well, yeah, but you can polish an apple and If it's a little dirty, you can polish it up.
You can kind of tidy up your speech.
You can put a facade on a house.
So how do we actually tell what's good, what's bad, what's real, what's fake? So this is a two-part answer.
The first part of that is something called pressure.
Pressure.
Pressure.
So the fruit begins to get squeezed.
The heart begins to overflow.
The flood hits the house.
And so all of a sudden the facade is gone because the pressure has come because you can fake the surface.
You cannot fake the source.
