Episode 619: How to Know When to Say No to an Acting Job

Here's what I want to say to everybody.

When you're first starting out, if you have the means to build your credits and it'll work for stuff you can get footage off of or you can get, let's say, build an amazing relationship, student films, independent films or whatever it is.

Again, if you have the means and it's not going to drag you down, do it.

Absolutely do it.

But if you're saying, no, I got it.

That's two thousand dollars I spent.

I don't feel like I got I liked it as much or whatever.

If that is a no for you, this is always going to be specific to you, everybody.

Like if that is a no to you, then that's a no to you.

But if you're asking DeJuan, like I was almost like credit hungry at the beginning.

Like, you know, I believe that work begot work.

And so that's where I went in, but you will burn out that way.

does that make sense? It will burn out chasing people for footage, you know, not doing the right thing, but that's okay.

As I was getting experience with doing, I was doing background for soap operas.

I was doing under five for soap operas.

I was doing extra work for, you know, some stuff on TV.

Like when I was there, I was getting credits.

as I went, and then here's the thing that I think no matter what stage you're at, everybody, actors tend to not be good at.

Pause, dramatic pause, listen up, knowing when they graduate.

Right, to where you don't have to do that.

Knowing when you graduate.

And I think actors are not really good at that.

I got good at it.

And that means if you've done, I don't need to hear if you're 10 years in, you're talking about you're still doing background.
