In this important episode, We talk with Joe Jones from Liverpool a real life suicide survivor as we confront the difficult but crucial topic of suicide, aiming to shed light on its complex realities…
So what techniques that we give you, if you had to pick two, what techniques helped you the most from your sessions in therapy and then obviously outside therapy and then when you finished leading on? So I remember I
And you say that 20, 30 times in the morning, you're progressively getting more aggressive with it, loud and to the point where your mind's not thinking about suicide, not thinking about how bad your day is going to be or anything negative.
Yeah.
So that technique in itself is powerful because...
You can say it out loud, you can say it internally.
The idea behind it is that statement, you say it with congruency, with meaning, and you get louder and louder and louder within your own head.
You do that 20, 30 times in the morning, afternoon, evening.
Those words then form...
the next part which is your thoughts yeah that then forms your emotion that then forms your behavior so if you change the words at the beginning you fix the behaviors at the end so that over time practice properly will give you the tools to make you feel that you are a working pro which you can and you will become a success and get to where you want to go that's it and
at first I was a bit like typical like whatever and you feel a bit silly doing it and you're only doing it in your own head no one can hear you doing it and then you're like oh shit works yeah and you're like oh so then you get that bit more of belief in it and you're like okay next time it's a bit more bit more bit more to the point it's like fuck yeah this is it and you do it and do it and do it and you have good days bad days but it's there to use to cope and distract you from falling into negativity straight away and it's not easy but it helps massively and that's what people need to understand that you've got to have that belief in it and if you don't have the belief then It's not going to work.
I've shared my personal story on the previous episode of the podcast with Kev.
Similar to yourself, I found my way to Mullens therapy seven years ago, and it was the same.
I had that same stigma.
Mental health is all bullshit.
Therapy, I'm just a bloke.
I'll just push it down.
I've got to be there to earn, to support the family, and to keep everything going.
doesn't really work like that and it was only through kevin showing me the techniques and showing me that actually my brain isn't working the way it should at the minute i'm constantly worrying i've got an image stuck in my head that just won't go away and it was i would literally i could blink while i'm driving and i had that image stuck there for weeks and weeks and i just thought it'd eventually go away it didn't it got worse and then after two sessions with kev
gone and that is it because there's no he's so experienced he knows what works and what doesn't work so he knows right okay well I can fix this with that straight away
