Hello and welcome to another piece of health and fitness advice from me, Gary Brazil of Age Defy Fitness.

I'm a personal trainer in Steel Flex Gym in Virginia Town and I'm also an online fitness coach.

Normally I'm talking about fitness, nutrition, getting fitter, getting stronger, building healthier habits.

But today I want to talk about something which is much more personal and it affects so many people, not just in Virginia, but around the world.

Now, before I go any further, I want to say something that's really important.

Because if you're listening today and you're quietly wondering whether alcohol has become a bigger part of your life than you'd like, or if you're worried about someone that you love, I hope you'll stay with me for the next few minutes.

Because I want you to know something, it can happen to anybody, absolutely anybody.

People often have this picture in their heads of what someone with an alcohol problem looks like.

They imagine somebody who's lost everything, somebody sleeping rough, somebody who's unemployed, somebody whose whole life is visibly falling apart.

Sometimes it's someone who gets up every morning and goes to work, pays the mortgage, looks after the family, coaches the local soccer team.

has a laugh for friends, smiles at everyone, and then quietly struggles every evening when the day is over.

Sometimes it looks exactly like your neighbor, your work colleague, your best friend, or the person looking back at you in the mirror.

That's why it's so important that we stop judging and start understanding.

It doesn't care about your age, your job, your education, or how successful you are.
