When Kuba discovered a long piece of abandoned wood and christened it ‘Bob’, no one could imagine the relationship that would develop as Kevin, Maya and Kuba took Bob on the oldest pilgrims' walk in…
But Bob is a very special metaphor for possibly my relationship with Cuba and Maya, which goes back many years now.
They're only 11 and 9, but I've been there from their sort of most earliest days and we've piled around together and we've traveled the world together it has to be said and that's been a great blessing for them and for me and Bob was this metaphor for the wonder of traveling with your grandkids.
We'd flown in to Porto and we overnight in Porto and then we got a taxi up to Padrón, which is just outside of Santiago de Compostela, the end of the great Camino pilgrimage walk where people came from all around Europe to Go and see the remains of St. James as one of the brothers of Jesus himself, according to the scripture.
And this incredible church that was built there hundreds and hundreds of years ago.
And there's again people in very dangerous and difficult and dark times when you had death and destruction and disease.
plaguing Europe people walked, often in their bare feet, to go and pray at the tomb of Saint James.
So a fantastic event is the Camino and of course it's now got this new lease of life.
It had been converted into a very posh, I'd have to say, hotel-cum-staging house on the Camino trip itself.
So when we met later for supper, Kuba came along with this extraordinary little sort of branch of a tree, a stick if you like, and he announced very proudly that this was Bob.
And like many of the most wonderful things in life, it arrived without explanation or planning.
