He Rewrote Parts of His Novel After a Research Trip | The House That Held Her with Ellis Hart

Have you done a book signing there or have you given your books to anyone who lives there to say, hey, this is all about your town?

No, that's a great question.

So I thought, well, hold on a second.

Like there's got to be a bookstore around there somewhere.

And the book was about to come out, I think, in about four weeks.

and my wife was like we should probably go there like in real life to make sure that like you know you captured it pretty effectively and i was like yeah okay and it's like it's like 50 minutes away probably an hour from us but you know traffic in florida is always you know kind of crazy with the parks and stuff around so i was like all right fine we'll go and one i'm glad that i did because i had gotten so much stuff wrong from google street view so i like had all of my directions like screwed up and and whatever.

So then we were, we stumbled upon this bookstore called Barrel of Books and Games and And yeah, I went in and we talked and I was like, hey, I wrote this thriller and it's literally about this town.

You're right across from the museum where, you know, the character goes.

And so I was wondering if you wanted to carry the book.

And she was like, let's do a signing.

And I was like, okay.

So I did my first book signing there right in Mount Dora.

So it was great because I had like tons of family and friends come support.

But then just people cruising by were like, oh, it's actually about my town.

Like I'll buy it, which was really, really a cool thing.

So yeah, that was my very first book signing.

Awesome.

What went wrong with the Google Street View? I know because I've done Google Street View with Boston for my book because I couldn't just go to Boston.

And when I looked at it without looking in detail, I was on one street and it was like empty parking lot.

I'm like, oh, perfect.

It's an empty parking lot.

And then I took a step forward and it's like these massive industrial buildings.

And it turned out Google had updated some pictures, but not the others.

The others were like 20 years old.

Yep, yeah, that was pretty much exactly what I was running into as well.
