A postal worker on the night shift at a Midlands sorting depot begins noticing fleeting figures, unexplained movement, sudden headaches and waves of nausea in one particular part of the building…

I started on the evening shift and eventually moved on to permanent nights because the hours suited me.

This is probably worth saying straight away because people imagine haunted places as Victorian buildings with boarded windows and old staircases.

It was a large industrial unit on a business park, mostly concrete, metal and fluorescent lighting.

There were loading bays along one side, a sorting floor in the middle and offices along the front.

Conveyor belts, cages being pushed around, reversing alarms, radios, doors opening and shutting.

The reason I'm telling you this is because for a long time I didn't think there was anything unusual about the place at all.

The first thing I noticed was something so small that I almost didn't remember it.

I'd been there for maybe half an hour when I saw someone walk past the end of the aisle.

I saw a dark shape, roughly the height of a man, past the opening at the end of the row.

Well, you would, wouldn't you? A few seconds later, I looked up properly, but there was nobody there.
