In 2026, Ballard High School’s Cassidy Armstrong closed out her career as one of Washington’s defining distance runners. In late May, she delivered the defining performance of her high school career…
Cassidy ArmstrongGuestNicholasHostCassidy Armstrong, welcome back to the Sunday Shakeout.
I think this is your third time on individually.
So good to get you back on.
How are you doing this afternoon?
I'm doing awesome.
We had such a good chat off here.
We were being like, okay, let's just get into the conversation.
You've had such an incredible season.
You were undefeated in the regular season in Washington, which is pretty crazy considering the journey that you've been through the last year, the last 18 months.
What is this past senior track season meant to you and all that you've accomplished?

It's pretty full circle because like my freshman year, I was just trying to break like 515 in the mile.

And to think that I was able to run faster than 515 for two miles in pretty much every single race this season is just kind of mind blowing.

And The fact that I was able to come away this year with a state title is like I would have never even thought that was a possibility my freshman year.
Does the state title that you won? This is kind of interesting question.
Does it feel like it closed a chapter for you or do you think it kind of opened a new chapter in a way? Because I feel like you've kind of set yourself apart in Washington and obviously you're moving on to Duke in the fall.
