The Road to Your First Pull-Up

But I'm a purist, and the pull-up seems to be more like the standard.

Yeah, I never understood that.

Uh, for, for me, the, the, the chin-up always felt a bit more natural.

Uh, I don't know why, but, uh, I always preferred it.

I, I'm, uh, not a quitter like you, so my, my, uh, break from, uh, chin-ups is going on, uh, a decade now.

[laughs] Uh, I, I got some, uh, nagging, uh, uh, bicep pains, so I stopped doing them, thinking, I will get back to this any day now.

[laughs] And it's been a decade.

But they are ...

Chin-ups, pull-ups, no matter which, uh, version you prefer, they are, like, the first thing one wants to be able to do, uh, after falling in love with the gym.

It's-

Yeah

... it's such an a- athletic movement.

Yeah.

Uh-

It was one of the first thing I wanted to do when I started going to the gym seriously.

Yeah.

And as often is the case for normal-weight men, man- many men can kinda do one even if they haven't trained, but it might look ugly and so on.

So for me, the initial goal wasn't really about doing one but feeling that being able to do maybe three strict one, and maybe as a, as a mile- uh, milestone further down, maybe being able to do 10 strict ones-

Yeah

... that would be super awesome, I thought.

I would be strong if I were able to do that.

And of course, by the time I reached 10 strict ones, I didn't think I was strong anyway.
