The Washington Mystics get the win against the Los Angeles Sparks 70-80. Rebounding was the story for the Mystics as they dominated, grabbing 43 to LA’s 27. Cotie McMahon had a career-high nine…
Jarrett L. SpenceHostHow important is rebounding and what takes, what kind of skill that takes to go after those rebounds?
I mean, we have one of the biggest front courts in the league, so rebounding is definitely something that we pride ourselves on.
We also have big guards, um, and just getting those second chance opportunities.
We want our guards to shoot the threes, and we want them to feel comfortable that if they don't make it, you know, we're there to get the offensive rebound.
Um, and then on the defensive side, we wanna limit teams to just one possession.
So that's definitely been an area of focus for us this season.
Coach, um, going back to Cody having a career-high nine rebounds, you guys had a total of forty-three rebounds.
So how's important, how important is it for the guards to also get on the boards as well?
Yeah, we, we talk about that a lot in terms of sometimes, uh, the best defensive play will be for our bigs to hold off the other bigs.
It's not always true.
We want them to, um, grab those rebounds when they're in that area.
But, but sometimes, um, you know, they, they, they're boxing out themselves and, and the, the, uh, perimeter players are open there, uh, to make some plays.
Um, it's also s- exciting to see Cody grab defensive rebound and kinda go coast to coast, you know, so that's kinda gets her going as well.
So, um, it's a, you know, it's, it's an advantage for us and, uh, we certainly wanna see her continuing to at- attack the glass on the defensive end.
