Joel, and Jonny share features, and first impressions of Minecraft 26.3 Wilderness Bound, then answer listener email about grabbing, sorting, storing, and renewing new blocks. Show notes for The…
Well, I am now, as I mentioned earlier, in 26.3 on Survival Guide Season 3.
So the first thing I did, of course, was log in to where the end rings used to be.
As I mentioned previously, I decided to stick around in the end on that world save just to see how things had affected world generation and I now have a big trench of void that is surrounded by freshly generated islands, which looks very weird, but I doubt I'll ever be back there again since it's now, you know, 300,000 blocks out in the end or whatever it is, so I am hoping in future that I'll be able to revisit that by some sort of end fast travel system, but who knows if or when that will ever get implemented.
For now, I'm back in the overworld, and oh boy has the overworld changed a little bit, although it's changed quite far away.
So the first thing I wanted to do was follow a trail of abandoned camps to my first dappled forest.
I did so.
It was 16,000 blocks north.
So a lot of traveling.
Almost used up an elytra getting there, kind of hopping from camp to camp.
And I wasn't going by the most direct route, but...
Of course, the abandoned camp maps never give you the closest location necessarily.
They don't give you the most efficient route to get there, and they're not also going to direct you to the largest equivalent of that biome.
So the funniest thing was I grabbed a map from, I think, a birch forest that gave me dappled forest abandoned camp map.
I went, great, I'll head in that direction.
Before I had reached the location the map was showing me, I flew over another dappled forest.
And so I went, oh, okay, cool.
So it's inadvertently led me to this one, which actually turned out to be larger than the one I was being directed to.
But immediately, obviously, got some poplar wood, harvested some leaves, grabbed some saplings, like... took out some shelf mushrooms and some red bushes so I could reproduce those back at home and now I've started farming Poplar Wood properly I've explored a lot of the abandoned camps there and back and Poplar Wood has now been inserted into my storage system along with trying to figure out neat ways of storing leaves because there are now so many different types of leaf blocks in the game I decided they probably needed their own storage so one of the sets of barrels that I have in the area where I'm storing a lot of the more colourful blocks like wool and concrete powder, terracotta, all of the stuff that you can dye 16 colours I have a couple of unused corners of that, one of which is now all for leaf blocks so plenty of those now on display uh i have added cushions and concrete curves to the windy city stadium which is still a work in progress but now that we have stairs and slabs and concrete i decided to slightly remodel the curvature of the the outside face of the of the stadium so that it looks a Looking good so far, the cushions have now populated some of, if not all of the seating inside the stadium so that we now have a way people can sit down, you know, theoretically because it's just me in this world, but if we wanted to have like a scene with some spectators or if I ever make the map public and people can, you know, join in a multiplayer context then I'll be able to like show people around and people can watch a match happening.
And so right now I'm working on next steps for this.
I'm probably going to be fast tracking a gold farm so I can set up piglin bartering, get lots of renewable gravel, and then start making more concrete.
I am figuring out what I want to do with some of the dappled forest locations because having now searched for a couple more of them on stream and decided that I can use chunk base at this point because I've found them naturally in survival, I'm now locating some of the more developed and larger dappled forests in this world, which are an equivalent distance away, some of them, and some of them just have had no chance to generate because the terrain was generated before 26.3.
But about 10k blocks out is the norm for a lot of the larger ones that I've found that aren't already in explored territory.
So there's a couple of larger forests that have pretty promising build potential.
I took down the And I don't know if I plan on building anything at them yet, but there's opportunity to do that.
It's nice to know where they are.
