And I noticed this, I'm sure you probably noticed it a lot in your own work, but a lot of people that come to me that might be struggling with their eating, however that presents, they tend to be incredibly high functioning people.

And also that like there's so much emotion under here and I can't show that because that all their friends and family, everyone that they've known for however long, they only ever know them as this high-functioning person.

But somebody in their world might react to that like, oh, I don't know what to do with this.

And they might try and fix it or smooth it over or just say, oh, just be positive.

So when we're speaking to, like I know a lot of my listeners are these people, these women that are really high-functioning.

They're holding everything together so tightly, but then the struggle with food is behind closed doors.

In your own work, What's your perspective on that? Like this, I guess it's a polarization, which in IFS is two parts fucking against each other.

I'll get to that in a minute, but I just really want to, you know, say I appreciate you bringing up the kind of hyper-functioning or, you know, working really hard sort of on a daily basis.

And as you were saying, you know, it really, those parts that are over-functioning, are helping a person to keep going on a daily basis.

And as you say, a lot of the parts could not imagine something else because they never experienced it because they started to function in the same way from a very early childhood.

Now often, What I learned from clients' parts that are over-functioning is that that was the way they managed to get love and validation and being seen and heard by parents or the surroundings.

So let's imagine a child who felt an emotion and didn't get that validation, didn't get seen, didn't get soothed.

And then suddenly that part shuts down and the over, those productive parts come up.

and then suddenly they are getting seen and they get validated and they are being told that they're good, that this is their worth.
