Gender Based Violence in South Africa: With Magistrate Neelan Karikan (JASA President)

There are a lot of rumors in terms of the police force, and I know you can't particularly comment because you're involved in the judiciary, not so much in SAPS.

But, I mean, I was even told as early as yesterday by someone that, you know, the son is going to go and apply to the police force and it'll cost him 50 or 60,000 rand and he's in, which is very kind of not what we are wanting here in South Africa.

True or not, I do not know.

This is only hearsay.

I do not claim that this is the truth.

Sure, sure.

I've also heard that.

I've also heard that in different spaces, not just the police.

It's nothing new.

I've heard that in the education department.

I've heard that in the justice system.

But you see, it's all about leadership and management.

And there's no way leadership and management don't know what's happening on the ground.

They know what's happening on the ground.

They just need to get their hands dirty visit the necessary stations, ensure that the face of, whether it's the charge office or the court, is correctly reflective and they get good service.

I was just recently, I went for an interview for a chief magistrate post in, it's for Quebec, and I was interviewed in Pretoria and I was at Hatfield Police Station The gentleman that was at the chart office was so...

At the end of the whole process, I was so grateful for the service.

But mind you, that type of service, you don't receive everywhere.

And this was in Hatfield at Pretoria.

So I enjoyed that experience.

But generally, I mostly receive negative experiences.

But you must understand that a police station is busy.

People are coming there all the time.

They're bleeding.

They have gunshots.
