Text us a comment or question! Does it feel like your body suddenly started playing by a different set of rules after 50? You’re not imagining it…
Chapter three: What changed after 50? Let's address the question that probably has been sitting in the back of your mind since you picked up this book.
Why does this feel so much harder than it used to? Seriously, why? Why could you skip a few desserts in your 30s and lose five pounds? Why could you tighten things up for a few weeks and watch the scale cooperate? Why could you get away with things then that seem to have consequences now? If you're over 50, you've probably asked yourself some version of these questions.
"It used to be so easy." "My metabolism must have slowed down." "Everything changed after 50." Or one of my favorites, "If I even look at a cookie, I gain weight." After years of coaching men and women in their 50s, 60s, and beyond, I can tell you one thing with absolute certainty.
The good news is that reality is far less scary than most people have been led to believe because while some things absolutely change with age, many of the things people blame on aging are actually the result of something else entirely, and understanding the difference changes everything.
Imagine two 65-year-olds, same age, same number of candles on the birthday cake.
One spends their days hiking, traveling, strength training, playing with grandchildren, and living independently.
The other struggles to get out of a chair, avoids stairs, takes multiple medications, and feels exhausted most of the time.
Why? That's the question we need to answer because if age alone were the determining factor, those two people should look and function much more similarly than they do.
We all know someone who seems remarkably young for their age, and we all know someone who seems much older than their age.
