Leadership, Delegation & Serving Others with Carol McGehe

I'm very much of an administrative type.

My background is mathematics, and I taught and wrote curriculum for mathematics at the secondary level and university level for a number of years.

So I have this sort of analytic spreadsheet sort of mind.

And now with AI, I'm beginning to learn and figure out how AI can help me organize some of those things.

I smiled when you mentioned spreadsheets because so many mission-driven leaders think they're supposed to choose between heart and structure, but I don't believe it's either or.

Structure protects compassion.

Systems allow more people to be cared for.

Organization isn't the opposite of ministry.

Sometimes organization is ministry because every good system creates more room

for people.

So I'm actually, while I'm in a very heartfelt ministry and there's a lot of human contact and back and forth, I'm also behind the scenes managing all of this stuff and trying to make sure that I do that in the most efficient way.

And delegation, you're right, is huge.

And I'm I'm actually, it's been fun because as we've gotten our widows together and as they have become more healthy in this community, they are volunteering to do some of the aspects of the work.

So they, while they're the recipients, they're also becoming part of the team.

That's awesome.

And it's really fascinating to watch that.

I absolutely love hearing that.

That's one of my favorite leadership moments.

People stop being consumers and become contributors.

That's when a community becomes sustainable.

They're not simply receiving care anymore.

They're helping create it.

That is a beautiful transition.
