If you wanna go hunting without a dog, the first thing I think you need to think about, number one, is where are you going to hunt? Are you just gonna walk through pheasant fields and break brush and try to flush birds? You can do that.
If you got two, three p- maybe even more people that can walk in a line, uh, down a field and, and break brush together and try to push birds.
If you got just one person, I think it makes it easier for the, the birds to just walk away from you in any direction they want.
If you have a moving line, you can, uh, I think, have a better chance of flushing those birds up.
Um, you know, there's a reason why people train dogs to go through heavy brush and, and sniff out and flush out pheasants.
Uh, it's not a lot of fun to do as a child either, but maybe a little easier just 'cause you're smaller, uh, you know, but that's a story for another day.
So where I recommend you hunt pheasants if you don't have a dog is in the woods along the fields or along the trails or on open trails.
Number one, uh, I think you can have some good success hunting pheasants where the field meets the woods, where the edge is.
I think there is, uh, a, a, a good chance of you finding pheasants in maybe that, um, I don't know, however little big it is, we'll say 10 to 20 foot of, of space between the field and the woods where, where the, the edge happens, and it's not open woods, but it's not the field.
I think what happens sometimes is birds get pushed out of fields They, they end up in those, uh, those little edge positions.
They still have some cover, and they may just stand there motionless as you walk up and walk by.
And I think a lot of pheasant hunters have walked past birds like this and never even knew it.
They're looking into the field, not looking into the w- into the edge towards the woods.
