Erin Patterson loses appeal

A hundred percent.

Well, just to start, we were all watching it here this morning.

We were gathered around the television.

Obviously it all kicked off at about 10 o'clock and we sort of turned away and then someone yelled out, it's over.

And I think it was only 10 past 10 by that stage.

So from our perspective, it felt like it was over pretty quickly.

Was that your perspective as well?

Normally, when an appeal judgment is handed down, it will last for like 30 seconds.

So you literally don't have your bum on a seat long enough before you're standing up again as the three court of appeal justices or two or one, depending how many are hearing it.

Get up and walk out.

Usually they'll come in and say appeal granted, appeal denied and potentially what the result is and off they go.

Today, though, they did give those that were in the courtroom a little bit more of an insight on how they came to their decision.

We got a little bit more detail, which went for about 10 minutes.

And I know looking at my computer now, it's three o'clock in the afternoon.

I've just got an email to say the full 163-page judgment has been sent through.

So my night will now be a lot of reading in legal speak.

But I really wanted to take our listeners through first exactly what's happened.

We wanted to bring an episode... through to them straight away.

And Jo, I can sort of tell everybody what's happened today.

Erin Paterson, appeal refused.

She had said, no, we don't want the conviction to stand.

The trial was unjust.

It was unfair.

But three-quarter of the bill of justices says, no, that appeal is refused.

We saw the DPP also appeal against her sentence.
