You Were Never On Trial

What if the reason achievement never feels like enough is that you have been using it to answer a question that was never supposed to stay open? In this episode, Dawn Grant explores the difference between contingent self-worth — worth that depends on achievement, approval, appearance, comparison, or performance — and a more secure sense of worth that does not rise and fall with every new result. Dawn unpacks how people can learn early in life that love, belonging, safety, or acceptance depend on being good enough, successful enough, useful enough, agreeable enough, or impressive enough. Over time, life can become an ongoing trial in which every promotion, compliment, number on the scale, relationship, or performance gets submitted as evidence. She explores how that pattern affects rest, relationships, body image, high performance, and the ability to be fully present, as well as why conscious advice such as “you are enough” may not fully reach beliefs that were formed at a deeper subconscious level. This episode is an invitation to ask: What am I still trying to prove? Who am I trying to prove it to? And what would change if my worth were no longer the question?
