Megan Huffman from SHARE Greater Lynchburg & The Greater Lynchburg Community Foundation joins with the Lynchburg Public Library talking about the renovations and bookmobile and ways you can get…
Well, Megan, how are things going with Cher and the Greater Lynchburg Community Foundation?
We are launching a new campaign called Make More Possible, and it's really fun.
We've done some updates to our website, and the Community Foundation makes more possible.
We're a 53-year-old organization that last year gave away $2.8 million to the local community, and we want to tell those stories.
So that's the impetus behind the Share for Good podcast that we're launching soon.
And we have just finished up the fall competitive grant cycle applications, and we are stepping into the Youth Philanthropy Council applications.
So every fall, 26 local high school students are invited to join our Youth Philanthropy Council, and they represent 13 high schools around the whole greater Lynchburg region.
They will get to decide where a $10,000 and a $5,000 grant go, and it's specifically... nonprofit programming that is affecting youth.
So I would just wanted to make sure to put the pin in that for the makerspace.
You all should definitely apply for one of the 10 or the $5,000 grant because the students narrow something like 22 applications down to 10 and then they do site visits and they'll be able to come on site and we have mentors that take them to the different sites and then by March they announced where the 10 and $5,000 grants are going to go.
So, um, we've just finished up our, um, young professionals, uh, mentorship program where we paired 17 young professionals with mentors in the sector, um, who are board leaders and they've just graduated from the program.
So that's, um, starting, we have a mixer coming up for share greater Lynchburg on October 21st at findings art store.
And that's just a chance to get together in the fall, talk about Giving Tuesday, equip you with resources to launch well into the Giving Tuesday season, which this year is December 1st.
Very much so.
It's already here.
And it's going to be, I mean, Giving Tuesday is going to be here like that before we know it.
You can learn more about 208 nonprofit organizations plus volunteer opportunities, even the board level volunteer opportunities that Megan just talked about.
