Have you started imagining what could be next for you, only to hear a familiar voice say some version of "It is too late for me, I am too old to start now"? If you are in a midlife career and life…
I want to start with something a woman said to me recently on a call because I think you may have said some version of it to yourself.
She's 60 and she knows exactly what she would love to do with this next chapter of her life.
And in almost the same breath, she said, but I'm six years old now, so I feel like it's too late.
And I want to talk about it today because that one belief, I'm too old, may be the single thing that's standing between you and the life that you actually want.
In the work I do, one of the things we look at is what are called limiting beliefs.
A limiting belief is a generalization or an idea that you learned somewhere along the way and accepted as true.
We're not born believing we're too old or not smart enough or not the kind of person who gets to start over.
We picked those beliefs up from our families, from our culture, from the world around us.
And I am too old is one of the most common and most powerful ones there is, especially for women.
Because everywhere we look, there is a message that a woman past 50 is meant to slow down, to fade into the background, and to be grateful that the ambitious part of her life has already happened.
