You're standing at the edge of some change you want to make, something in you knows it is time, and right on cue, a voice pipes up inside your head and says, who do you think you are? You're not qualified enough for that.
That voice has a name, my friend, and in the coaching work I do, it's called the gremlin.
And it is that inner critic that tells you in a hundred different ways that you're not good enough.
What's important to understand about your gremlin or inner critic is this, because it changes everything about how you will deal with it.
It was formed a long time ago, usually back in childhood, as a way to protect you, to keep you from feeling embarrassed or rejected or hurt.
And the way it does this is by keeping you small, by keeping you inside your comfort zone where nothing can go wrong because nothing new was ever attempted.
It means well, but it will keep you stuck in a life that no longer fits for years if you let it.
And the gremlin is very clever because most of us don't even hear it as a separate voice anymore.
That is the gremlin doing its finest work, when you can no longer tell it apart from your own honest judgment.
