438: Partners in the Promise

Would that I would do the same with God.

My cooking lesson reminded me of more than just the tastiness of ceviche.

but reminded me of the importance and necessity of a childlike faith.

That's what I had with Aldo.

Shouldn't I have the same with God? He knows best.

In fact, our relationship really boils down to one thought, and that is he knows more than I do.

He not only knows the right recipe, he created all the ingredients.

And when he promises an outcome, it will happen.

And his promises, church, are the governing principles of our walk with him.

His promises are the governing principles of our walk with God.

And to follow him is to simply place steadfast faith in in the promises of God.

Elijah did this, and he models absolute, unending, unswerving trust.

He chose to heed the covenant over the circumstance.

Now recall that the circumstance is a drought.

A drought, a devastating drought.

Elijah announced to Ahab and Jezebel, the king and the queen, that the drought would last for three years and it would not end, he said, except at my word.

In other words, you think you're in control, you're not.

And a drought is about to come.

And it will only end when I say so.

And sure enough, for over three years, for 42 months, people awoke day after day to dusty air and cracked ground and cloudless skies.

They were in agrarian society.

They depended upon livestock and moistened soil.

So this was devastating.

A drought devastates human life.

Of course, you know that.
