Oughterard Footballer Eddie O'Sullivan looks back on the Senior and Intermediate Football Championship quarter-finals and the relegation finals. This Podcast is brought to you by Hoare Chartered…
Just finally on the relegation final, Pork and Cahill Manion getting the boots on for Calcher in the relegation final.
Goals from Keela Murray, Sean Kane and Cahill Manion getting the goal himself for Calcher to win 3-12 to 1-15.
I suppose it's a big result really for intermediate winners, isn't it? Because I suppose if Calcher went down, you'd have Michaels and Calcher gone down in the last two years.
Well, now this is a big lift for teams, I suppose, looking up at intermediate to make the jump to senior.
Yeah, yeah, absolutely, and it's a big jump, like, you know, like, we learned that ourselves, like, it's, we learned the hard way on TV, on TJ Carr, it's a big jump, like, you know, and senior, like, across the line have done it in AO, where they've, you know, bounced straight into a semi-final, and teams used to do it in Galway, but since it cut to 16 teams, no one has done it since, where they've, you know, bounced from intermediate straight to a semi-final, or even probably a quarter-final, like, it's there is a there is a good jump in it and culture lost a ladder to over the winter which would make it really tough but to be fair like the intermediate champions like michael's encounter wearing the best representations in terms of like michael's a lot of injuries when they arrived up and senior last year uh they were only getting back by the time they got to relegation so it was going to know they're on the back foot early doors um it's something you have to build into build up over time like so culture now another year senior build get a few more lads with plenty more senior game time over two three years then you can start really starting to progress through the championship and yeah funny off when we played them in an intermediate quarterfinal in 2019 both of them started and i was actually marking colman for the game and uh they're actually very good footballers
Cahill destroyed us a couple of years ago in a senior championship game.
He is, he's some bit of stuff, like, he's so skillful.
Yeah, yeah, I, I, I, I, like, our manager kind of said to me, he goes, you know, if you stop Cahill, like, you'll, that's probably dim at the time, like, because they didn't have dim fucks to the minor 18 from a few years ago, like, so I went full, kind of, like, you know, forget about the match, and, uh, we're about 50 minutes to go he just turned and absolutely decked me to the ground just fed up fed up with it but he no he's he is very good and he stuck a great goal on me near the end of it too where just left just kind of grabbed out in front of me turned left me for dead and back at net like so they are two huge additions for them
you'd often wonder if he didn't play there then would he have ended up with goal in football
probably would like Joe like inter-county calibre athlete like he clearly has a touch if he's spending all his time working on it like he probably is getting to that level like
just before we finish so it's it's my calling to win Frank Fox again for you
is it yeah my calling my calling probably yeah yeah my calling like there's nothing to say listen it's all till Saltil when it comes down to it yeah like you know Saltil when it comes down to that final like there'll be probably there'll be a lot of emotion now when I find out at this stage because they have been playing a lot over recent years so like and Saltil have no shortage of tall lads as well that they can like Sinéad Hano and Kit like they're probably not at the level of John Maher or anything but like they're still they're still tall men that can you know cause a bit of damage
