Lucy Ann LanceHost
We're talking with senior paramedic Julia Knipp from Huron Valley Ambulance, along with Scott Morell.

Scott, there are other individuals who also, like Julia, are receiving the Star of Life Award this year.
Uh, Senior Paramedic Abraham Paternoster, Senior Paramedic Corey Wells, and Community Paramedic Joe Abel.
All have shown just true dedication and expertise, just like Julia, and continually go out to provide just the best care that they can.

We're so grateful for each one of them, and all of the paramedics at HVA, and all of the staff there.

Uh, this organization is part of, um, an organization called Emergent Health.
Uh, back in roughly 1981, the, uh, services that were providing EMS to Washtenaw County had financially collapsed.
And so rather than compete with each other, U- University of Michigan Hospital and St. Joe's, now Trinity Health, came together and formed Huron Valley Ambulance, uh, to serve the community.
And once they realized that they were going to be financially stable as a nonprofit, they gave it over to the community as a gift, and we've been serving Washtenaw County since.
Uh, it transitioned into Emergent Health Partners as other counties underwent similar circumstances where their systems collapsed and asked us to come in and help them out, Jackson County, Monroe County.
And so with the expansion of this, they created the parent company of Emergent Health Partners, which really just developed straight out of Huron Valley Ambulance, and now oversees all of our divisions from alm- almost coast to coast across Southern Michigan.
