We're joined by Heather Geisler, who is executive vice president and chief brand and experience officer of Henry Ford Health.

Heather, thanks for joining us today.

How are you?

So I, I appreciate you voicing over your thought process on that terminology.

I know there is some debate on that in the industry.

Um- But let's zoom in now to what you're hearing directly from patients at Henry Ford Health.

Uh, metrics are obviously a huge part of measuring progress and a be- patient experience overall, but I'm curious, what's something that you hear from patients that doesn't show up in the dashboard necessarily?

By the way, those numbers still hold up in international studies since then.

My guest is Dr. Rena Oddish.

She's a pulmonary critical care physician and the medical director of care experience at Henry Ford Health.

And she's the bestselling author of two books that I loved.

Her first, In Shock, is a landmark medical memoir published in 2016 about the chasm she discovered between how she'd been trained to see sick bodies as objects and pathologies to solve and what it actually felt like to be one as a patient.

An increasingly common way for young people to get around, and now an increasingly common way for young people to get injured severely.

Uh, we're checking in with Dr. Shawn Mohan, Chair of Emergency Medicine for Henry Ford Providence Southfield and Henry Ford Providence Novi hospitals.

But certainly on these, uh, on these e-bikes and e-scooters, the American Academy of Pediatrics emphasizes that parents should carefully consider a child's age, riding ability, and understanding of traffic rules before allowing them to ride an e-bike.

Wearing a high-quality helmet, following road safety guidelines, and receiving proper instruction can help reduce the risk of crashes and injuries.

We've got Dr. Shawn Mohan, Chair of Emergency Medicine for Henry Ford Providence Southfield and Henry Ford Providence Novi hospitals.

Doctor, what are the most common injuries you're seeing from these e-bikes and e-scooters?

She currently serves as a senior vice president and chief medical officer of Advocate Health, the nation's third largest not-for-profit health system, serving approximately 6 million patients across six states with more than 165,000 team members.

Prior to her current role, she was enterprise senior vice president and chief medical officer of Henry Ford Health, overseeing quality, safety, provider affairs and surgical services.

She's received many national recognitions, including the Joint Commission Physician Leadership Award, Modern Healthcare Innovators Award, and recently, Becker's Review Health and Hospital System Chief Medical Officer to Know.

She earned her medical degree from the University of Michigan.

So we did well.

There was a good financial turnaround.

We improved our CMS starting from two to five, and then I got promoted to be the chief quality officer for the enterprise, subsequently the associate chief clinical officer over service lines, and then the chief medical officer for Henry Ford Health.

A few years go by quickly.

But in the long term, we felt for the long term health of this franchise, this was the right move.

And we found a great partner in Henry Ford Health.

I don't know if you've seen it, but you should see it next time you're in.

I'll give you a personal tour.

We built our headquarters on Henry Ford Health's campus, and it's been an incredible partnership.

So we built our headquarters for our business offices and our basketball offices and our practice facility all together on Henry Ford Health's campus.

And Henry Ford Health is the... is the preeminent medical institution in the city of Detroit.

And it's a national institution.

matters.So, uh, you mentioned research, and that's definitely something I wanna spend our last couple minutes talking about.

Uh, one of the most visible signs of that research, at least, uh, here in the city of Detroit, is your partnership with, uh, Bob Riney and the Henry Ford Health System, and that incredible new, uh, medical life sciences research center that is going up right on The Lodge.

As you j- [chuckles] as you drive in from The Lodge into downtown, that building just looks so impressive.

Uh, tell us about that partnership with Henry Ford Health.

Well, probably no more important partnership, um, uh, uh, and, and better partner than Bob Riney and, uh, Henry Ford Health that, that Michigan State could have.

Um, uh, I just had a chance to tour the, the research building about three weeks ago.

It's, uh, uh, on schedule to, uh, to inter for us to open up, um, uh, early spring of, of '27.

Uh, it'll, uh, house, uh, over 500, uh, researchers, uh, 80, uh, principal investigators with research, everything from, uh, an entire floor dedicated to ner-neurofibromatosis, which, uh, uh, the Gilbert Family Foundation is, is supporting, uh, uh, all of the work that'll happen on that, uh, floor of the building, uh, to honor, uh, Nick, uh, Gilbert, as you know, who passed a few years ago from this disease.
