Whether you realize it or not, the people you spend the most time with are shaping you. Their words, habits, attitudes, and beliefs can influence the way you think, the choices you make, and…
I was thinking about this the other day because I was at a family gathering and we were all around the table and there was a hot topic that we were all talking about.
It was funny to hear the different opinions coming from the table, not in a heated way, it was just like, hey, this is what I believe, this is what I heard.
You could trace it back to what our feeds were telling us, what our algorithms were telling us on social media.
and that opinion could be full one side of the spectrum and then you can change your feed and you could get a completely other opinion going on and this is a dangerous place to live as christians because in an ai generation it's easy to allow other people and other things to think for us but god has created us in his image and he wants us to be deeply rooted and deeply found in him and so i want to have the conversation today about who's truly forming you what's informing you and what is transforming you because there's a difference between what informs you and what actually forms you and sometimes i think it becomes a clouded line between the two things and so we might think oh we're just scrolling we're just listening to something but But before we know it, it's changing us a little bit of a time because it doesn't just happen all of a sudden.
You don't wake up one morning and be like, oh, my mindset and my theology and my opinions on life and my opinions on morality have all of a sudden changed.
What happens is it's those little influences day in and day out and the saturation.
What's different about our generation is the saturation of that we have in those opinions and mindsets of other people.
And so those little moments are shaping us and it's shaping something inside of us.
maybe marriage or finances in our lives and if we're not careful even what we feel like god is saying or who god is can be shaped by these influences around us and so if you don't intentionally choose what forms you the world will definitely choose it for you and so like we said formation It happens slowly.
I don't like to talk about this topic sometimes because I don't want to look at the truth of what I have been allowing to form me.
But it's a good time to rip off the bandaid and say, okay, I'm going to take an inventory.
I'm going to take a good hard look at what I'm allowing to control my thoughts, my feelings, my theology, my faith.
in even my mindsets in certain areas and I want to make sure it's the right thing and so you know it's understanding that even the even the voices around you on social media are having some sort of formation in your life even AI you can ask AI anything and it can give you an answered response but that doesn't mean it's correct it doesn't mean it's doctrinal it doesn't even mean that it is the best thing for you Romans 12.2 says, do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind.
