So to help us out, we're going to be diving into what I think is kind of a fascinating concept from top instructor and friend of mine, Mike Bender.

uh a long time ago and i was working on my own game in the 90s and he has now developed into again one of these top 50 instructors really done a great job i actually met him again at the pga show as a contemporary if you would i wouldn't put myself in the same category as him yet but i'm working on it like um but anyway um and it was kind of funny to catch up with him because i don't i don't think he remembered me uh as a student but i i do remember or he did remember kind of the comments that i made he had these um what they were called like men's megsa or something like that um training aids imagine like nautilus style equipment they were bright yellow right And they were steel and you would get in these things and it would help you stop coming over the top.

There's another machine that would help you, uh, you know, stop early extending.

And they were intimidating, right? Cause there's there's steel and you get in there and you're like, oh my God, I'm going to break my wrist or something.

So I remember saying to him and he remembered me saying to him like, Hey man, this is never going to work.

If they're not out of business, they're not nearly as popular as they were in the 90s.

And then at the time, when I told him I had, at the time we had like 4,000 students or whatever, he's like, no way, you? it's kind of funny but but anyway he wrote this book all right with um with a co-worker of his or co-author of his i should say mike i think his last name is mercier but um the book is called golf's eight second secret what separates golf's greatest champions it's a fascinating read i read it on a plane the first time and i've read it probably three times since um bender studied the, what I would call like the absolute legends of the game, right? And what I mean by that specifically, I believe he looked at the only people he looked at or considered were people that won five or more major championships, right? So this is the elite of the elite.

He analyzed their pre-shot routines and discovered what I would think would be kind of a striking common denominator, right? From the moment that these guys or these greats set their lead foot, and that's the key, they set their lead foot and stepped over the ball, to the moment they completed their follow-through, it took them exactly eight seconds or less, right? Um, think about that eight seconds or less.
