I've always liked cooking and outdoor cooking especially.
And I think a lot of it has to do with my dad.
My dad was, I mean, my dad never cooked except that he did do weekend grilling.
And I remember, I mean, he seemed to like the hibachi, which is, if you're not familiar with the hibachi, it's like a little tiny grill.
I don't know why he liked it, but...
Maybe it was just like the Japanese connotation.
I don't know.
But it was like a little grill and, um, he would cook everything on it, steaks and, um, hamburgers.
And he had very specific recipes that he adhered to.
And they were very, I will say this, my dad cooked lovingly.
He, he did this hamburger thing where he would take like barbecue sauce and like a handful of dried parsley and a handful of minced onion and he would mix it up and like salt and pepper and maybe a little bullion and he would mix it up into this paste and he would cover burgers with it and then he would slow cook them on the hibachi and oh they were good they were they were very good and so much so that I find myself like replicating that as an adult Every once in a while, I'll like whip up that same thing.
And I don't know why I had this memory of my mom had this certain platter with like flowers on it.
And my dad will always put the burgers on that platter and smear that barbecue mixture over the burgers.
And it seemed like they would just sit on the counter for like hours and hours.
I'm sure they didn't, but it seemed that way.
And even to this day, like I said, every once in a while, if I'm cooking burgers, I'll do them dad style.
And again, I have no idea how accurate my rendition of the burgers is as far as what he did, but it's just based on my recollection.
And I just love it.
Maybe it's all nostalgia.
I don't know.
