So get ready for the shorty episode today we're going to talk about do you think stylists should give out their personal phone number to clients? off the cuff it's 2026 if someone wants to get a hold of you they're getting a hold of you i think that we in the industry are people pleasers and i think that we're not always really good at telling our guests where our boundaries are or just even being able to share it so i'll tell you what i do and you can do it as you please I don't have great boundaries, probably according to several people.
I give almost everyone has my personal phone number and I give it out pretty freely.
And I think if someone is going to abuse that privilege of having my personal phone number, I will tell them when it's appropriate to contact me.
or when it's appropriate to contact me about a specific thing, or this would be better via email, something like that.
Now, I do have quite a few young stylists, especially when I'm teaching in salon classes.
And everybody's in a different type of salon environment, right? So you may be in a salon environment.
So let's do a couple scenarios, okay? So scenario number one will be you're a commissioned stylist in a commissioned salon.
They could probably reach out to you on social media, email, anything like that.
But for the most part, you're a commissioned stylist and... that's one of the wonderful things about being a commission stylist is that they have the salon phone number and they can call the salon you probably have a receptionist or someone who works the front desk to be able to schedule your appointments and do all of those things so that's one of the benefits of being a commission stylist and working in a commission salon is that you don't necessarily have to worry about that all of the client issues hair problems anything like that goes directly to the salon and through the salon, I should say.
So do I think if you're a commission stylist, you need to be handing out your personal number? No.
