We Have Josh back on the show to discuss the horror that gave us both Miramax films and Jason Alexander and Fisher Stephens and Holly Hunter. So a mixed bag in terms of its legacy. but what was the…
Summer camp, a time for making memories and getting in touch with the elements, planting trees and digging latrines for earth, fresh outdoors for air, swimming and sailing for water, and for fire you have camping and immolating a drunk caretaker in a prank gone awry.
But some people just can't take a joke, and the caretaker, Cropsey, goes on a killing spree.
Not against anyone in particular, just hookers that unironically make fun of his appearance even when they look like they were cobbled together.
[laughs]
Five years after his accident, and a new generation of horny smart-asses are out to have adventures.
Sadly, they're in for the adventure of a lifetime as Cropsey has made it his mission to massacre.
Usually, the biggest scares these kids would have is a ghost story by the fire or an inconclusive pregnancy test.
[laughs]
[laughs]
Or, or it burns when they pee.
Seriously, what summer camp has no children but just horny teenagers, and why didn't I get sent to there?
[laughs] Every summer camp in a slasher movie.
Except for maybe sleepaway camp.
Ugh.
Our cast of campers includes Alfred, the nebbish nerd who sneaks up and peeks on a girl, Sally, in the shower to scare her.
Her boyfriend, Glazer, makes it his mission to make Alfred suffer even more than he already does just by being Alfred.
Luckily, he has friends that include Woodstock, played by Fisher Stevens, and Dave, played by Jason Alexander.
They protect him from the worst of Glazer's revenge, and even shoot him in the ass with a BB gun to make him think twice.
Other subplots include Glazer and Eddie being walking hard-ons looking for a place to land, and gradually wearing down the resistance of their prospective partners, because this was written by Harvey Weinstein.
Mm-hmm.
[laughs] The first kill eventually happens around 45 minutes into the movie, so we have plenty of time for character development.
This movie delivers on this, actually, giving us plenty of scenes to determine who we want to see getting some pruning shears to the throat.
That's the method of murder here, because he's a gardener.
Get it? He waits for the camp to relocate to an island so he can let loose the canoes and strand them there.
"But wait," you might ask, "What if they just make a raft to get back to shore?" Well, the genius of this movie is that they thought of that, and they did it.
