Small Fasts Beat Big Burnouts
Why shorter fasts can actually outpace longer.
What am I gonna do to start again in September?" What have you kinda seen people struggle with in this time?
Yeah, I've always joked with everybody that the Tuesday after Labor Day always feels like January 1st for so many individuals, 'cause they feel like they're really hitting some, like, massive reset button after the summer, and they just wanna jump in headfirst and go 1,000 feet deep right off the bat, and that's a really good idea.
We go through this every season with members and coaching clients who are new, just asking them to reflect.
So I think one of the most important things that people really need to understand is that this isn't just a weight-loss transformation.
It's a real personal evolution and personal transformation, and if we approach this for our metabolic health and weight loss like we've approached it in the past, going from one extreme to another, it's likely going to fail.
Natural desire to do things is, you know, if we feel we've gone backwards as far as possible, we wanna then go forwards as fast as possible, and not really analyze how we ended up backwards in the first place.
And I was saying in a summer study program, we wanna stop the madness, right? Like, we wanna stop spending the fall undoing the summer, and spending the spring undoing the winter or the December holidays and stuff.
Like, we just wanna figure out to make continual progress, and if you keep ping-ponging back and forth between extremes, you're just never gonna get there.
It's not that you shouldn't try maybe a ketogenic diet in the fall, or an elimination diet, or something more intense that you've been doing.
But you really need to think about, hey, you know, what popped up for you in the summertime? Work on that and see how much of that is still prevalent in your day-to-day lives when you go back into that September fall routine that you've been out of because of summer holidays, and travel plans, and visitors and whatnot, and try to work on those things so you can be in a good shape for the December holidays and you're moving forwards.
Even if it's baby steps, it's forwards, it's not backwards, so we can break this cycle.
There's a lot of information about fasting, a lot of information about nutrition out there.
I think what makes The Fasting Method and us all unique is that we're really behavior change facilitators.
Obviously, you in a very significant sense with your background, but you have to change and you have to recognize that, okay, if, you know, I took 100 steps back, the antidote to it is not to jump 100 steps forward.
