Hi everyone, today we're joined by Dr. Michalski from Washington University in St. Louis' Dermatology program.

Yeah, we're super excited to learn more about WashU Derm and why you chose WashU and your path to medicine.

So could we start by you maybe telling us a little bit about yourself and your path into dermatology?
And I thought I would actually become an oncologist when I started medical school.
My dad is a radiation oncologist and my mom is a coordinator for oncology trials.
And then during medical school, I think I was a first or second year medical student.
And I had the opportunity to work with two dermatologists at MCW, Dr. Edith Olas and Dr. Zelmira Lazarova.
And they introduced me to this specialty more on the research side of things.
And I had the opportunity to shadow them and realized how impactful dermatology could be and ultimately decided to apply into this specialty.

And then do you have any specific focuses within dermatology? Like, have you been able to integrate your prior maybe interest in oncology?
So I did my residency training at Wash U in St. Louis, and then I left for one year and did a Mohs surgery fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic.
where I trained to become a Mohs surgeon and also learned cosmetic procedures.
And so now in my practice, I take care of a lot of high risk transplant patients.
So patients who have a lot of skin cancers and higher risk skin cancers.
I also do Mohs surgery and then I have more of a cosmetic side to the practice as well.
