You're trying really hard not to pass your own food and body image issues on to your kids. But what if some of the things you're doing because you think they're helpful are actually creating the…
This is going to be the first episode in a new series of episodes where for moms, I mean, for dads too, really for all parents, but I really am going to say this is for moms, about how to not pass on your disordered eating and body image issues to your kids because you're already doing it.
And I say that with love because I'm doing it too in some ways, right? We're all doing it.
I think that I heard this once and that's my favorite thing to say is we're all trying to fuck up our kids as little as possible, right? We're trying to minimize their future adult therapy bills.
And I actually think that this is something that there's not a lot of conversation about.
And interestingly, I've had multiple clients come to me over the years and want to talk about Their awareness of their own issues around food and seeing their kids start to have issues with food and wanting to get ahead of it.
Like being aware that something is going on and wanting to do something about it so it doesn't continue spiral and they don't end up in the place that the mom is at.
Which right off the bat, you're an awesome mom, right? If you're seeing that and noticing that, kudos to you because it's not easy.
And it also means in some way you're going to have to address your own stuff.
It's going to be really, really hard to... not pass along your stuff to your kids without doing any work around it.
Now, I'm not saying that you need to commit to long-term coaching or anything.
In some cases, maybe listening to this podcast, or I've got some other ideas.
Maybe I got to sit with this and kind of go through some of these episodes, maybe record some of these episodes and see... how you guys are liking them and what you're interested in.
But I have a couple of ideas for how we could maybe turn this into kind of like some more structured support.
But really, this is all about giving moms, you as a mom, or even as like a mom-like person, if you don't have kids, but you have kids in your life, the support to be able to talk about food and bodies and handle questions like, mom, can I wear a string bikini? Mom, can I wear a crop top? Mom, I want to lose 10 pounds.
Boys' bodies and girls' bodies, right? So certainly we can talk about this in terms of like, you know, heterosexual relationships.
