Is it just me, or is feeling hungry somehow become something we’re afraid of? I’ve heard this from SO many clients over the last year and now with GLP1s feeling like they are everywhere, I think…
I'm going to talk about feeling hungry because feeling hungry has become this thing that I think people are afraid of.
And I think this is a side effect of GLP-1 culture, which I will call it that because GLP-1s are part of the culture.
This is also something I've heard from clients for years and something I experienced myself when I was like in the throes of my disordered eating years.
There's this feeling that I've heard from clients over and over again and that I hear now from people who are on GLP-1s that feeling hungry is scary.
And the reason feeling hungry is scary is because you don't trust yourself.
And I think that I think we need to like call this out because hunger is a normal, natural, needed signal that comes from your body.
Does your body communicating with you? And it's a form of communication that we've become afraid of.
And I totally get that, right? The fear is not innate, right? You're not born being afraid of feeling hungry.
When you're born, you cry when you're hungry to let your mother know that you need to eat, right? And little kids are not afraid of being hungry.
But as adults, we've developed a fear of being hungry because we've had enough really scary, unfortunate, fucked up experiences with food where we've been hungry and we have stuffed ourselves probably on something that didn't feel so good.
And so I think it's like we tell ourselves sometimes, oh, it's about the food.
But I think also we are equally afraid of I feel out of control when I get hungry.
