As we've noted in this podcast before, and it's in the first episode of Yoga for Your Intellect, another podcast dedicated to Vedanta that I, it's more of a conversational podcast that I have with my teacher, Joseph.
And in the first episode, he had a phenomenal knowledge bomb that gratitude and desire cannot coexist.
So if we ever find ourselves in a moment of despair within desire, something isn't going our way, something's distracting us from our day-to-day because we want something to go our way.
When we're lost in the mire of desire, one of the ways that we can get out of it is to shift our mind.
Use the power of the intellect, our subtler equipment within us, shift it towards gratitude, shift the mind towards gratitude instead of towards acquisition of more.
But what does this philosophy say about gratitude itself or the practice of gratitude? It goes so far beyond a gratitude journal.
or practicing it here and there, cultivating a sense of gratitude, when you get into the three daily practices of Vedanta.
I find it so much more beautiful than just be grateful, practice gratitude, keep a gratitude journal.
If you keep a gratitude journal, maybe you write down five, 10, 15 things that you're grateful for in the morning.
You might have 14 things that you write down in a gratitude journal in the morning, but don't take anything for granted.
